In this post you’ll discover how to use video chat and desktop sharing to enhance your communication with team members – all from within Lync. While Outlook 365 offers fantastic features for communicating via text and email, Lync does the same using video.
3 Features of Lync
- Video Conferencing
- Record using Lync
- Screenshare & Remote Desktop Control using Lync
Lync Video Conferencing
You can hold a video chat with any of your contacts simply by hovering over the name of the person you wish to chat with and then selecting View Options > Start Video Call.

If this is the first time you have tried using Video chat, however, you may need to configure your webcam first. Next to your name in Lync, you will see the options symbol. Click the icon and then go to Tools > Options > Video Device. From here you should be able to edit the Webcam Settings and start using your camera.
Recording using Lync
In some circumstances, it is useful to record your video call or meeting. If you are hosting the meeting or video call and would like to record it, go to More Options > Start Recording. Alternatively, you can access this functionality through the menu bar. Simply click Actions > Start Recording.
Screen share & Remote Desktop Control using Lync
Another powerful feature that can be implemented during meetings and video calls is the ability to share your screen with contacts. It is worth becoming familiar with the Share menu in Lync, since it contains a number of very useful functions that can assist you in communicating effectively with your team.
How to Upload Files on Onedrive
To share your screen with others, simply click on Share and then Desktop.
In some cases, you may also wish to give control of your desktop to other members of your team. In order to do this simply select Give Control. In fact, everyone involved in the video call can control the desktop if you would like: just select Automatically Accept Control Requests.
TO SUM UP…
Becoming familiar with the basics of using Lync allows you to take control of communicating with your contacts efficiently and face-to-face. I highly recommend checking out some of the other features in the shower menu to further enhance your Office 365 Login possibilities.
